Start by filling out your name and contact information in the top left corner of the form.
Next, indicate the type of tax return you are filing by checking the appropriate box. In this case, you are filing a Form 1040 tax return.
Report your total income for the year. This includes income from all sources, such as wages, salaries, tips, dividends, and interest.
Next, report your total expenses for the year. This includes expenses for things like rent, utilities, car payments, and groceries.
Subtract your total expenses from your total income. This will give you your taxable income for the year.
Now, look at the section of the form that corresponds to the type of income you are reporting. For example, if you are reporting wages, look at the section for wages and salaries. Report the amount of income that is taxable for that type of income.
Add up all of the taxable income amounts from each section. This will give you your total taxable income for the year.
Finally, enter the total amount of taxes that you paid for the year. This includes federal, state, and local taxes.
